Perlat with the new law, everyone must choose for themselves whether they feel

The public consultation on the draft law on gender equality has brought changes to certain articles, including the definition of gender.

The LGBTI Alliance's request for inclusivity has been accepted and reflected in the draft, going beyond the binary concept of man-woman.

Xheni Karaj from the LGBT alliance says: "This bill cannot change biology. Gender as a social and legal category has nothing to do with this reality, it is related to the way individuals live and express themselves in society."

This new concept has caused widespread public debate, with numerous complaints that there has been a lack of consultation with all interest groups.

Kaon Serjani, director of the Institute for Faith and Cultural Engagement, says: "It literally takes you off the rails because it comes out of the binary, bipolar meaning of man-woman, but at the same time figuratively, it steps us up. This is something radical that will pave the way for gender identities that can go to 66, 72 or some say there is no limit... biased interest groups were consulted and the majority were ignored."

In the report of the Ministry of Health as the proposer of the law, it is explained that the drafting of this act is related to the progress of the country's European integration process, but there are objections that deny the EU's unique gender identity standard.

"Most European Union countries in their gender laws accept the binary gender of male-female. Some countries may have legal facilities to change gender, but they must remain within the framework of either male or female. My call is that if the law is going to parliament, men and women, left and right, should stand up and understand that this law is destroying the family, gender identity. And if this is sold as a reason to have integration in the EU, we cannot accept integration by self-destructing," adds Serjani.

Expanding the definition of gender beyond man and woman, for the director of the Institute for Faith and Cultural Engagement, Kaon Serjani, would bring chaos to Albanian society; while for Xheni Karaj of the LGBTI alliance, it is a respect for human dignity.

"The Albanian language is a grammatical gender language, we have pronouns that are either masculine or feminine, in defining the new genders, neither male nor female, for example, English has the word "they", we have them/them. This will create artificial terms that will deform the Albanian language presented in the documentation. Related to education, the law could turn into an ideological indoctrination. There will be inequality in sports, or a real danger for girls," says Serjani.

"This is a legal and international obligation to respect, protect and guarantee human rights, without distinction for every individual," adds Karaj./ TCH
