The European Union has decided to take action itself regarding the scandals with the funds they provide to Albania. IPARD funds continue to be blocked, while Ilir Beqaj is in prison for stealing money provided by Brussels.
After these scandals, the EU has demanded stronger control mechanisms from the government, so that the funds go to their destination. But the requests have fallen on deaf ears, as Rama has not taken any measures to punish those who have stolen the millions coming from Brussels.
For this reason, as " Pamphlet " warned a few days ago, a delegation consisting of several MEPs arrived in Tirana today. They were in Montenegro yesterday, while today they have arrived in Tirana and the purpose of the visit is to check how EU funds are managed.
The agenda of the meetings has been revealed today. In Tirana, the capital of Albania, they will meet with the Minister of Finance, the Chairman of the Supreme State Audit Office, the Director of the State Agency for Strategic Programming and Aid Coordination (SASPAC), the Special Structure against Corruption and Organized Crime. They will also visit the location of an EU-funded project, while at 2:00 p.m. they will give a press conference.
“ Albania and Montenegro, as EU candidate countries, are already receiving EU funds. We want to find out how this spending is monitored and see for ourselves the impact of the money on the ground. To get a comprehensive picture, we will meet not only with officials, but also with representatives of civil society, ” said Head of Delegation Niclas Herbst before the start of the mission.
What is striking is that there will be a meeting with the head of the Supreme Audit Office, as this is the only body that has remained independent. As well as with SPAK, where this prosecutor's office has a voluminous file. OLAF has filed a lawsuit for abuse of IPARD funds at the time when Frida Krifca was at the head of AZHBR.
