Fredi Beler's lawyers have filed a new request for his release in the special court. The review of the request takes place today, while the judging panel is asked to replace the prison arrest with another measure of freedom, enabling Fredi Beler to take the oath as the mayor elected by the citizens of Himara.
According to the lawyers, this right is denied to Beler if he is not released by mid-September when he loses his mandate.
Fredi Beleri has been in custody since May 12 of this year after he was arrested for buying the votes of 8 citizens for 40,000 lek. Courts have rejected several of his requests for release, while Greek authorities have condemned the arrest.
