Lawyer Redi Ramaj spoke about the control exercised by SPAK in the apartment of journalist Elton Qyno and the pressure exerted to reveal his sources of information.
He said that this case is disturbing and that the treatment given to the journalist by any type of prosecution in Albania must be in accordance with the code of criminal procedure and the law, respecting basic human rights and freedoms.
The lawyer stated that the journalist's profession should be taken into consideration in this case, which according to him should make public the information for the citizens.
He added that it is the duty of the Prosecutor's Office to protect investigative secrecy, not the journalist's.
"I think it is worrying, in no case the treatment given to the journalist by any type of prosecutor's office of Albania must be in accordance with the code of criminal procedure and with the law, respecting basic human rights and freedoms.
These guarantees must be respected, but his profession must also be taken into consideration. Our interest as citizens is that every serious event is made public because the citizen's interest is to know who he will vote for tomorrow.
The prosecutor's office has a duty to maintain investigative secrecy, it is not the journalist's duty. At the moment we speak, the prosecutor's office must preserve the interceptions and the data of the investigation, while the journalist has the duty to publish the information that falls into his hands. The way the journalist was treated by the prosecutor's office is wrong, there should have been a different approach", Ramaj told "News 24".
