The data shows that the performance of this sector is close to zero or even negative.
The head of government criticized the mayors who, according to him, do not pay attention to the life of the village. But local affairs expert Agron Haxhimali considers this criticism as a belated reflection.
"It is obvious that the village has not been in the objective of either the local government or the central government. The figures show this fact. Therefore, the prime minister's call seems to me like a belated reflection on a vital sector, which once led economic growth with a 20% contribution to gross domestic product, but has now fallen to 16%," said Haxhimali during an interview for the "E-ZONE" show.
According to Haxhimali, what municipalities can do more is to direct investments in several key segments for rural life.
"Data shows that almost 50% of the land that produces in the country does not have an irrigation system. So there is no water for irrigation. The farmer is forced to create a system himself, investing in order to realize production. But this investment has a cost, which ultimately translates into an even higher price of the final product. Local units can channel part of the funds to this basic element for agriculture", explained Haxhimali.
Haxhimali continues by saying that investments in rural areas should have procedures that are as simple as possible, unlike urban ones.
According to him, individuals living in rural areas do not have all the necessary information, so there is often a discouragement of investment initiatives.
