
Today, the Attorney General Olsian Çela received in a meeting the Attorney General of the Federal Prosecution of the Kingdom of Belgium Ann Hansen. The parties signed a cooperation agreement between the two prosecutor's offices.
Based on it, the prosecution offices of the two countries will cooperate in the field of serious crimes, illegal trafficking and money laundering.
The parties will aim for direct judicial cooperation as well as conduct bilateral consultations periodically in order to monitor the implementation of requests for mutual legal assistance - discuss/consult on operational difficulties that arise in connection with the implementation of these requests for assistance mutual legal in the broad sense; to coordinate actions taken to combat transnational crime that may have consequences in both countries within the scope of this agreement, particularly related to serious crimes, illegal trafficking and money laundering.
During the meeting, the parties evaluated very positively the level of cooperation so far and agreed on the need for its further intensification, especially in the direction of the fight against the cleaning of the products of the criminal offense. In this context, there will be a more proactive approach in the coordination of investigations in this area, aiming to conduct parallel investigations and the rapid spontaneous exchange of information.
In addition, the investigation and criminal prosecution by the Albanian side of persons who have committed criminal offenses in Belgian territory, as well as the recognition of sentencing decisions, were also assessed as very important.
