Journalist Basir Çollaku has drawn attention to an alarming situation of the justice system in Albania, describing the state as crumbling.
He emphasized that, while the DEA (Drug Fighting Agency) has opened an office in the country, this office is not addressing one of the biggest problems involving Albania, corruption.
"We are at the ruins of the state. The DEA has opened an office here, but it has not opened an office for corruption. We have a much more serious problem, the mafia has rented the state. Those who will give us honest opinions, those who meet with the mafia there, they will fight corruption", said Çollaku for "Euronews Albania".
According to Çollak, the connections between politics and organized crime are a major obstacle to the development of the country and to the creation of a justice system that works for citizens.
His statements come in a context where concerns about corruption and the influence of organized crime are growing, causing many citizens to lose faith in state institutions.
