Journalist Artan Hoxha spoke about the national protest of the Democratic Party of Albania (DP) held on Tuesday in front of the Prime Minister's Office and Parliament. Hoxha emphasized that the police response to the protesters was overwhelming and that they did not pose any threat.
Regarding the persons arrested in connection with the incidents recorded during the protest, Hoxha stressed that in previous protests they were also released by the Court. According to him, the court found that the arrested protesters were not a threat to order.
" Now, even in the previous protests, even though almost the same language was used, almost the same language, the people who were arrested were acquitted by the court. So, contrary to what these people say, the court did not find in that case that the citizens who were arrested posed a danger and a threat to the constitutional order.
The court has decided it, the court of the republic. So the court has not yet given the right to either the prime minister or the minister to release the people. It has investigated them while they are free and has released them. Meanwhile, in the latter case, the parties are trying to get a grip on the balance. But I said once again, in a situation where we have protesters and trained police, the main part of the responsibility lies with the police because they are trained and equipped to deal with that situation.
So the policeman is protected, he is wearing a spacesuit, he is wearing a shield, he may also be wearing a vest inside, he is wearing anti-gas equipment. So he is trained, the protester may be there because there may be 100 people in a group but one is active.
"But now you have those 100 people, that simple citizen, family member, can be with his daughter, he can be with his sister, with his brother, with a sick person there. So, he who has come to protest like any other person, has the right to protest. You cannot react in that kind of way when they do not pose a threat ," he said on "Euronews Albania".
