The population count also brings the vice president of Bulgaria, Iliana Iotova, to Albania.
The process in our country is considered of special importance for Sofia, because it will be the first time that Bulgarians living in Albania will be identified as minorities.
The Bulgarian minority was recognized in 2017, while their official number will be determined by the Census that starts on September 18.
During the visit to Albania, the Bulgarian vice president will visit the areas where the Bulgarian minority lives, will visit the Bulgarian school in Elbasan and will meet with high officials, including the president Bajram Begaj.
In Albania, on September 18, the Institute of Statistics is expected to start the Census of Population and Housing, a process that will last for six weeks.
The 2023 Census is the country's most important statistical event, and it will involve over 7,500 surveyors, supervisors and controllers trained by the Institute of Statistics (INSTAT).
They will record data on the population, demographic, social and economic characteristics detailed at the geographical level, related to housing, education, health, and employment.
"Census preparation this year is based on European standards, improved local laws and modern technology. The census of Albania this year follows the recommendations of the United Nations and the European Commission for professional statistics", said the director of INSTAT, Elsa Dhuli.
