Korça apples in short supply and more expensive this year, bad weather

Weather conditions have damaged apple production in Dvoran, Korça, bringing a smaller quantity to the market. As a result, the price of this fruit is expected to be higher than usual.

This year has been difficult for apple growers in the Korça area, due to unfavorable weather that directly affected production yields. Jorgo Braholli, a farmer in the village of Dvoran, raised this concern for Euronews Albania.

"Directly from the plot it is about 800 old lek per kilogram. It is a record price for wholesale sales by farmers. In the spring, agriculture was hit by low temperatures and many varieties have no production this year," says Braholli.

According to him, this situation will also affect consumers' budgets.

"We have a problem: the market will buy them at a high price and this will affect the citizens' pockets ," he said.

Arben Likollari, another farmer in Dvoran, known for growing apples, confirms that production is low this year. However, he emphasizes that the quality of the fruit is better than last year.

"It has been a difficult year due to the climatic conditions and frosts in the spring. However, we have managed to produce a quality product. Retailers receive super quality," Likollari told "Euronews".

In the Korça region, 80 to 120 thousand tons of apples are produced each year. Of this amount, about 28 percent are stored in refrigerated conditions, ensuring market supply for the coming months.
