SPAK has completed the investigations and sent the file for trial for the former chief of the Traffic Police, Roven Zeka, and two other employees, Sokol Novaku and Edison Tabaku, accused of corruption.
They are accused of taking money from a woman who had been in an accident so that her case would not be referred to the Prosecutor's Office.
The Special Prosecution Office has also indicted Ergest Vrioni and Bledi Belba. The case file with charges of passive and active corruption of officials will be tried in a preliminary hearing by Judge Irena Gjoka.
The three officers were arrested on April 19 by order of SPAK, on charges of having demanded and received 2,000 euros from businessman Erges Vrioni to avoid arresting his wife, who was involved in the accident that occurred on April 16, and so that her case would not be referred to the Prosecutor's Office.
We emphasize that Roven Zeka was placed under house arrest on July 14 after requesting a lighter security measure due to the pelvic injury he sustained during a fall in custody. The Special Court accepted his request after receiving a response from the medical expertise regarding the former police officer's condition.
According to the investigation file, since Tabaku ((judicial police officer) knew Erges Vrioni, the husband of the woman who caused the accident, he asked for a sum of money to avoid arresting Anisa Vrioni. One thousand euros were given to police officer Edison Tabaku, near his apartment. Tabaku himself met Erges Vrioni again in a bar near the traffic police station and asked for another one thousand euros, after telling him "I have other people on my mind."
From the verification that was made of Tabaku's phone, it turns out that he has communications with his bosses, Roven Zeka and Sokol Novaku (head of the accident sector), where he tells them that he would obtain the other 1,000 euros later from Vrioni, whom he had a friend, giving him until the next day. SPAK says that they took 2,000 euros from the businessman husband of the driver who had caused an accident with 5 injured people.
