On June 16 of this year, Safet Gjici was forced to resign as mayor of Kukës, after the publication of a video that shows him in a sexual relationship in the office with a girl identified as Alma.K!
On Sunday 24/09/2023, about 46 thousand citizens of Kukës will turn to the ballot boxes to choose the new mayor, between Emri Vatës of the coalition "Bashke Fitomje" and Albert Halilaj of the SP, only 3 months after they elected one in the May 14 local elections.
Although the candidate of the SP, Safet Gjici, in the elections of May 14, won the second mandate in the Municipality of Kukes, receiving 49.70% of the votes and leaving behind the main rival of the "BF" coalition, Admir Sinamati, his mandate did not it would take too long.
With the map of the local elections colored blue, everything seemed to be going well for the Socialist Party, until the moment when the newly elected mayor of Kukes was involved in a scandal that would force the latter to resign.
On June 16 of this year, Safet Gjici was forced to resign as mayor of Kukës, after the publication of a video that shows him in a sexual relationship in the office with a girl identified as Alma.K. After the full publication of the video, Gjici was arrested and an investigation was launched against him by SPAK for abuse of office and use of office for favors. This is because the video showed a conversation where Alma.K asked Gjic to give him a tender for the sterilization of street dogs.
Then the President of the Republic, Bajram Begaj on 11.08.2023, set the date of September 24, 2023 as the date of holding the elections for Mayor in the Municipality of Kukës.
Meanwhile, after the announcement of the date of the elections, SP, PD and the 'BF' Coalition started thinking about the candidacies. In the end, only two candidates appeared in the race for the post of mayor of the city, Emri Vata registered under the coalition slogan "Bashke Fitomje" and Albert Halilaj from the Socialist Party, while the official Democratic Party, although it was registered as a competing entity, did not present a candidate.
Even though the last SP mayor was fired as a result of a serious scandal, it seems that the citizens again and this election lean towards the socialist candidate.
This is because in a survey published by "Pamphlet" addressed to the citizens: - " Who do you think will win Sunday's elections in Kukës?" "-, where more than 1700 people participated, the final result was somewhat 'shocking' given the way the events unfolded so far, but seen from another perspective, it could also be a message for the Berisha-Meta duo.
Of the 1,700 voters who participated in the "Pamphlet" survey, 56 percent of them voted for the candidate Albert Halilaj of the SP, while only 44 percent voted for Emri Vaten of the 'BF' coalition.
Anyway, everything remains to be seen the next day, but if the SP triumphs again in Kukës, Berisha's alibi, that Basha was one of the factors that caused him to lose the elections of May 14, would be dismissed. If such a thing really happens to the duo, Berisha-Meta will have to think of something else, apart from permanent excuses./ Pamphlet
