The armies of Albania, Kosovo and Croatia have signed a very significant agreement between them today.
The military agreement aims to strengthen the defense capabilities of Albania, Kosovo and Croatia, as well as increase cooperation in the defense industry. The ministers also explained that it also aims to improve military interoperability through education, training and joint exercises.
" Due to geopolitics, we want to have cooperation in our region, taking into account the risks that are present and the situations that are happening in Europe, also referring to Ukraine. We are also thinking about our past, which is not too distant. Information that we have from the past and gives us the opportunity to think, therefore we have made the decision to have cooperation between the three states. This cooperation will be based especially on providing assistance in the development of the defense industry, changing the fulfillment of all agreements that we have signed so far. We now want to strengthen these and share the experience of our state as Croatia as part of NATO and the EU ," the statement says.
But this has enraged Serbs. The Foreign Ministry in Belgrade has announced that it will send an urgent request for explanations to Tirana and Zagreb. According to it, this is a provocative act.
" We will not ignore the clear political message of this initiative. It is clear that this memorandum is not the result of accidental cooperation, but of a deliberate strategy aimed at isolating Serbia and strengthening paramilitary structures in the southern Serbian province, in violation of international law and UN Security Council Resolution 1244 ," the Serbian ministry said.
According to them, Kosovo's inclusion in this pact is a purely provocative act.
" In particular, we warn that unilateral arming and military cooperation with illegal structures in the territory of Kosovo and Metohija represents a direct blow to the international legal order and a threat to regional peace. Serbia will not accept this silently ," it further states.
At the end there is a firm message that Serbia expects an urgent response from Albania and Croatia, adding that it will not allow any action that endangers its claimed territorial integrity.
