Historian Auron Tare has stated that if there is no professional intervention, not for restoration but for conservation, within a century the Spaç prison will no longer exist.
Tare emphasized that when talking about restoration or conservation, it's not just about the buildings but the entire landscape, how to turn the area into a historical memory so that what happened is not forgotten.
" Like everything in Albania, we are not serious about our memory. Have you seen what the Jews do with their museums? They finance museums all over America to keep the memory alive. A big smokestack was erected for the Tepelena camp, some cypress trees died and 280 thousand euros disappeared. It is not a problem to fix 2 buildings, the galleries, the wagons, the rails must be preserved, we as a nation are not conscious of memory. It is a mess, it is not restoration, it is a matter of how to turn the area into historical memory, the entire landscape, it must be conserved not restored. Generations are leaving, there are no more left, they will steal them and those like that and they are gone, it is gone, after a century we will no longer have Spaç ", said Tare on the Now show on Euronews Albania.
