Asked what are the lessons that Albanian society can learn from the Italian reports on the mafia, Saviano stated that dealing with crime enables society to understand the dynamics.
The former minister and diplomat, Ditmir Bushati, conducted an interview with Roberto Saviano, the internationally known journalist for the denunciations he has repeatedly made against the Italian mafia.
In the "podcast" on the topic 'In the name of freedom', Saviano talks about crime in Albania and why it must be fought from the root.
Bushati asked Saviano about the concept of freedom, about the culture of the mud machine, about the relations between the Italian and Albanian mafia and what the two governments can do to fight it.
Likewise, Saviano in this 'public square' reveals his stance against the pact between Edi Rama and Giogia Meloni for immigrants.
Another point was what Albania and Italy should do to have a good neighborhood.
" I understood what freedom is by losing it. I lost my freedom at the age of 26 when I wrote 'Camorra' and today I am 44 years old and I am also under protection. No, if I were to return, I wouldn't do it ," said Saviano at the beginning of the conversation.
Asked what are the lessons that Albanian society can learn from the Italian reports on the mafia, Saviano stated that dealing with crime enables society to understand the dynamics.
" To understand how the procurement of public funds works, to understand how the laundering of dirty money devours construction sites, entrepreneurship and politics ," the journalist added.
He states that when the phenomenon is understood, it ceases to arouse fear.
" Our countries are close neighbors in all senses. Albania can learn a lot from Italy. Albania must end the silence, that is, the fear of speaking. It has to get out of this very dangerous dynamic to reduce everything to a gang issue. Saviano said, among other things.
Saviano also spoke about the structure that controls the mafia in Albania and the Balkans, where he said that Albanian organized crime is very extensive and complex. He said that the relationship between the Italian and Albanian mafia is a single fist, the same thing. According to him, this is because Albanian organized crime operates in Britain in full autonomy.
Another very important point on which Saviano shared his opinion is the pact between Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama for the creation of a reception center for immigrants from Africa.
Saviano called the agreement unconstitutional. He also raised the concern that this pact will serve to extend the penetration of the mafia.
" I found this kind of alliance on immigrants between Albania and Italy unusual. I think that not only this decision will not produce anything, but it will turn into an additional cost both in terms of economics and logistics for Italy. "- said Saviano.
