Tree felling in Vlora triggers KLSH to inspect Soda Forest
Soda Forest

The Supreme State Audit Office has landed in Vlora again, this time to investigate suspicious interventions in one of the city's most important natural assets, the Soda Forest. For weeks, citizens have been denouncing the cutting of trees and suspicious works in this protected area, which has forced the Supreme State Audit Office to intervene with on-site inspections.

According to sources close to the investigation, the KLSH inspectors are verifying not only the factual situation in the forest, but also the documentation accompanying the interventions. The Municipality of Vlora has a contract with a private company for the rehabilitation and cleaning of the forest, but this contract has been called into question. It is suspected that the interventions were not limited to cleaning, but there was also cutting down of young trees, which constitutes a serious violation of environmental law.

The SAI is inspecting the entire forest territory to document possible damages and to identify whether the responsibility lies with the municipality, private company or other public officials. This is not the first time that this green area has been the focus of inspections; suspicions of indiscriminate intervention and lack of transparency have been raised before.

At the end of the process, a detailed report is expected from the KLSH, which will publish the findings and determine whether there is administrative or criminal liability. The Soda Forest is a protected area that directly affects the quality of life of the citizens of Vlora, so any damage to it is not only an administrative scandal, but an act against the public interest and the environment.
