Almost half of Albanian citizens are outside the territory of Albania, according to official figures.
The number of Albanians living abroad reaches over 2.25 million people. Data for 2025 show that the diaspora represents about 49 percent of the total Albanian citizens.
According to figures published by the Diaspora Business Chamber, there are 2,256,346 citizens living outside the territory of Albania. Of these, 1,177,529 are men and 1,078,817 are women.
Data on the age structure show that the majority of the diaspora is made up of individuals of working age. About 77 percent are in the age group 15 to 64. Children from 0 to 14 years old make up 18 percent of the total, while 5 percent are over 65 years old.
According to calculations based on data from the Institute of Statistics for 2025, the new Albanian diaspora is estimated at around 2.25 million citizens abroad. However, there is no completely accurate figure due to the constant movements and complexity of the phenomenon.
Albanians living and working abroad contribute to the country's economy through remittances, which exceed 1 billion euros per year, as well as through professional engagements and collaborative networks.
