Psychiatrist Neli Demi reacted sharply after the University Hospital Center was left without electricity on Monday evening.

In a reaction on social media, the doctor writes that a hospital without electricity cannot be called a technical defect, but an institutional crime.

According to the doctor, last night the red line was crossed and the fact that there were no victims due to the lack of electricity was not a success of the system, but blind luck.
"The fact that resuscitation, emergency and vital services at the Mother Teresa University Hospital Center have been left without electricity is an institutional crime, not a "technical defect". This is a red line crossed. In no normal place: resuscitation, intensive therapy, operating rooms are left without electricity, ever. Not for seconds. Not for minutes. Not even "by chance".

If patients are being taken out into the corridors, this means that: backup systems do not really exist, or are out of order, or have never been tested, or managers do not trust them. Any of these would be a criminal failure in the management of vital services.

Don't talk to us about: 110 kV lines, OSHEE, unexpected breakdowns, "it was for a few minutes". In medicine, "a few minutes" kill. In resuscitation, seconds kill. If there are no victims today, this is not a success of the system, but blind luck. And a state that relies on luck to protect the lives of citizens is not a state, it is a public danger. This is not a technical problem. This is a problem of criminal, administrative and moral responsibility.

An independent and public investigation is needed, an urgent audit of UPS systems and generators, immediate publication of safety protocols and removal of responsible managers, without excuses and without delay. Resuscitation is not an “important” service. It is the last frontier between life and death. Whoever has left that frontier without energy has failed in the most basic duty of the state: the protection of human life. And for this they must be held accountable,” the doctor wrote on Facebook.

The QSUT emergency room was left without electricity for over 30 minutes yesterday evening, a situation that has caused tension among patients, medical staff, and family members, especially in the resuscitation service.

Regarding this situation, the University Health Center itself has also reacted, writing through a post on social networks that the power outage was due to a defect in the high-voltage electricity supply line that supplies Building A2.

The announcement also states that thanks to the immediate activation of backup systems (UPS, Generators), vital medical equipment has continued to function normally, guaranteeing the continuity of treatment and ensuring that the lives of patients are not compromised at any time.

Immediately after the power outage, according to the QSUT, the medical, technical and management teams were put on full alert, acting according to safety protocols and providing any necessary support to guarantee health services and taking the necessary measures.
