The Constitutional Court has reacted after a status by Prime Minister Edi Rama in X, where he commented on the judges' union's request for a 700 euro salary increase.
The Constitutional Court has reacted after Prime Minister Edi Rama's statement calling on him not to "go crazy" by approving the request of the Union of Judges, who are demanding a salary increase of 700 euros.
The Constitutional Court has issued a press release, emphasizing her independence and condemning any form of interference or pressure on her decision-making.
The Constitutional Court guarantees that the exercise of its constitutional function is unaffected by political parties or their activities and decision-making.
"Taking into account the positions and reactions recently published in the media and on social networks by representatives of other powers, including the executive branch, as well as the media itself, the Constitutional Court assures the public and the parties to the proceedings that it is independent in the exercise of its constitutional function and is not influenced by them in its activity or decision-making."
"The Constitutional Court takes the opportunity to reiterate that its decisions may be subject to criticism, however, any form of influence is unacceptable, as is any attempt to question its authority and reputation, even in appearance, which would violate the very fundamental principles of the rule of law and that of the separation and balance between powers," the reaction states.
We recall that a day ago, Prime Minister Edi Rama described the request of the Union of Judges filed with the Constitutional Court for a salary increase, for the second time in three years, this time by 700 euros, as scandalous. In a reaction on X, the head of government made the relevant legal explanations while underlining that the Constitutional Court should not "go astray" by repeating the previous decision to withdraw the government's silence out of respect for the independence of the judiciary.
The Union of Judges filed the request on March 3, 2025, at the Constitutional Court, where it has currently passed the preliminary hearing and a hearing for its review is expected to be held in mid-June. The Union of Judges believes that it has the right to request this salary increase, while the decision to be made by the Constitutional Court is awaited.
