The Association of European Journalists (Albania branch) has reacted to the police siege of the News24 building by dozens of police forces.
While condemning the attack, the association emphasizes that this action directly violates and affects media freedom in Albania.
"We call on the responsible authorities, especially the Council of Ministers, to provide public clarification on the circumstances of this action and the earlier revocation of ownership by the Municipality of Tirana to the KAYO company, and have all legal recourses been exhausted?!
Clearly, without proper transparency, this is a repressive action against the media outlets News 24, Balkanweb, and Panorama newspaper, but it has an extremely negative impact on the media as a whole.

The Association of European Journalists – Albania Branch expresses deep concern and condemns the siege of the “News 24” television building, as an action that directly affects and violates media freedom in Albania. This action, accompanied by the lack of proper transparency, is unacceptable!
Media freedom is not a privilege, but a constitutional obligation and a European standard.
