Analyst Aleksandër Çipa has commented on the summit held for Ukraine today in Tirana with the participation of President Zelensky and leaders from the region and Southeast Europe.
In an interview for "News 24", he said that the summit was held in the Albanian capital for several reasons, but mainly because of the geopolitical context where the Western Balkans region and Southeastern Europe are located, which has historical ties to the two camps of the Cold War. .
As for the security measures for the summit that also had the presence of Zelensky, whose country is at war, Çipa said that today's summit was held with the shortest deadline.
According to him, one of the vectors that is conveyed as a message from this summit is the solidarity that is offered in another dimension, not only in the geostrategic confrontation between the known powers, but between the countries of the region.
Commenting on whether Russia can look towards Albania, he said that the risk of Russia's neo-colonialist strategy or lesson is great for the Balkan region.
What are the reasons for holding the summit in Tirana?
There are several reasons for holding the summit in Tirana, but the main one is the geopolitical context where our region of the Western Balkans and Southeastern Europe is located, which has historical ties to the two camps of the Cold War. Two hotbeds that are potentially infectious from the malignancy from the East are Serbia and on some points such as Bosnia or the dividing border between Kosovo and Serbia where tension is maintained and there are premises for a conflict.
Zelensky, the most protected world leader in the world decided to come to Tirana, how do you see it?
Little do the reporters say so far, this is the shortest summit ever held. There were two sections to this summit, bilateral talks between Rama and Zelensky and closed-door sessions. What does Albania gain by helping Ukraine?
I think that lobbying is done and the Albanian space has a mandatory national object, this is the way to lobby for Ukraine to recognize Kosovo, which should be discussed. The perspective issues between the parties should be discussed, in this particular case, why are we not in front of a moment when the country can request the acceleration of Kosovo's membership procedures in NATO.
These benefits that come from putting these agreements into force should not cause shocks as we are a delicate region. Prudence and diplomatic and policy-making intelligence are required. Albania is taking advantage of being a member of NATO.
Can Russia look towards Albania?
It is too early to say that there is a project that will be put into effect for the production of armaments. I think that the risk from Russia's lesson or neo-colonialist strategy is great for the Balkan region. Our region's historical ties with Russia are an eminent danger. Political movements and preventive measures are positive. If the diplomatic protagonism takes individual nuances, this then multiplies the risk and other risks. I want to believe that there are two moments where regional diplomacy is evaluating them correctly. Breaking some of the principles of international norms in the field of security is one of the biggest risks for the future.
