Veteran striker Sokol Cikalleshi's 25th-minute penalty helped secure a 1-1 draw for Albania against Moldova on Friday to secure a place at Euro 2024 in Germany with a round to spare in its qualifying group. Moldova tied for 87th, but Albania needed a point to secure a top-two finish in Group E.
Group leaders Albania overcame top-ranked Poland and the Czech Republic to ensure they will play in just a second Euro after debuting in the 2016 edition. Albania is the 12th country to confirm its place in the 24-team tournament , AP writes.

Albania qualified for Euro 2024 with a 1-1 draw away to Moldova in Group E as the hosts kept their hopes of reaching the final alive with a late draw on Friday. Albania opened the scoring with a penalty in the 25th minute, after Ioan-Calin Revenco hit Taulant Seferi. Sokol Cikalleshi sent the ball into the net from the penalty spot.
The hosts tried hard for an equaliser. In the 87th minute, Vladyslav Baboglo's low shot from close range finally gave Moldovan fans reason to celebrate. Albania's bid for qualification began with a 1-0 defeat in Poland in March, but since then they have gone unbeaten, winning four games and drawing twice to reach 14 points and can secure top spot with a home win against the Faroe Islands on Monday.
Moldova is now in third place, level on 10 points with Poland and one point behind the Czech Republic, and could still qualify. They will face the Czechs away on Monday, but if the Czech Republic wins Friday's other group game against Poland in Warsaw, then Moldova's dreams of qualification will end," Reuters writes.
