The Declaration of Independence on November 28, 1912 was a great victory for the Albanians, even against the anti-Albanian policy of the neighboring Balkan monarchies, against their goals and plans for the complete dismemberment of Albania.

Albania celebrates today the 113th anniversary of Independence, one of the nation's most important events that is commemorated every year with pride and patriotism by all Albanians wherever they are.

On November 28, 1912, Ismail Qemali raised the flag in Vlora, declaring Albania a sovereign and independent state.

On the occasion of this significant day, local and central authorities have organized numerous events that will be held in several cities across the country.

The celebrations will begin in Vlora, where activities include the official flag-raising ceremony expected to begin at 10:00, tributes at the tomb of Ismail Qemali, parades, exhibitions, fairs, folklore performances, youth and symphonic concerts, as well as the Grand Festive Concert in the evening.

With the act of the Declaration of Independence of Albania, the Chairman of the Provisional Government, Ismail Qemali, notified the six Great Powers: England, Italy, Austria-Hungary, France, Germany and Russia.

Likewise, the Balkan states were notified: Romania, Montenegro, Serbia, Bulgaria, Greece and Turkey, requesting recognition of independence, as a natural consequence of the will of the Albanian people. On November 28, Ismail Qemali was proclaimed President of the Assembly and the first Prime Minister of the Albanian state. Independence was declared for all Albanian lands and ministers were elected from all Albanian provinces.

The Act of Declaration of Independence constitutes one of the most important events in the history of the Albanian people. It was the fruit of centuries-old efforts and wars of the Albanians to protect the territorial integrity of the homeland and to form the independent Albanian state. With the decision of the Assembly of Vlora, the Albanian nation gained its undeniable right to be free and independent, alongside other nations and peoples of Europe.

November 28, 1912 marks a historical turning point for the Albanian people, because on the one hand, the almost five-century rule of the Ottoman Empire came to an end, and on the other hand, new political conditions were created to emerge from the great backwardness and for its more rapid economic, social and cultural development.

The Declaration of Independence was a great victory for the Albanians, even against the anti-Albanian policy of the neighboring Balkan monarchies, against their goals and plans for the complete dismemberment of Albania.
