Lawyer Kreshnik Spahiu, while commenting on the functioning of the justice system in the country, said that today there is no prosecutor who has publicly denounced political pressure.
In a Skype call for the 'Frontline' show on Report TV, the lawyer emphasized that it is a success that there have been no public cases where politics has exerted pressure on prosecutors or judges through the dismissal of their family members, a practice that, according to him, existed in the past.
However, according to Spahiu, the most worrying phenomenon remains the fact that the increase in criminal proceedings and arrests has not led to a decrease in corruption, but according to him, has led to an increase.
" Today we don't have a prosecutor who says I have pressure for this issue and this is not a success but a revolution. For 100 cases of people in power, there has not been a single prosecutor who says he has pressure. So let's say that a certain politician put this pressure on a prosecutor for this matter. So I don't know of any case to date. To date, we don't have a prosecutor or a judge whose family member the government has removed from their job. The pressures are great, in a way, but what I want to say is that there is no pressure to dismiss.
The negative part is that there are 3 standards: the SP says I will not become a law firm for any person and then it becomes a court and a prosecutor. And this is evident in other cases. The other problem of the SP is an unprecedented case, because we have been saying for 30 years that impunity will fight corruption and now we are seeing that the more they are punished, not that corruption is not decreasing, but that it has increased even more. This is an Albanian problem ," he said.
