Public safety has reached its lowest point, murders are increasing... but the police chief is nowhere to be seen...
After many years of political and bespoke appointments, the Rama Government in its third mandate decided to appoint the Police Director through a competitive examination.
Even though it was known that the competition would be purely for show, it took place and Ilir Proda was appointed at the top of the list. He came from the Elbasan police and everyone had high expectations of him.
But if we look at the events of his first year in office and those of recent days, it seems like Proda is comfortable in his seat, without getting too involved in security matters, even though it is his responsibility.
During this year there have been assassinations, murders and the most banal crimes. The two most powerful events are undoubtedly the assassination in Lundë, where a “G Class” was shot at and fortunately there were no casualties, as two children who were in it were seriously injured. The other assassination took place in Shkodër, where 2 people were killed and two others were injured. The target was Erogen Brajovic, alias Vaso, who survived.
A week before him, Kristian Kola was killed in the middle of Shkodra. He was shot as he was leaving a bar, and the police never found the perpetrators.
Also, in Saranda there were gunfights and TNT explosions. A 58-year-old man blew himself up in his car and nothing is yet known about the perpetrators. Then we have the murder of Judge Kalaja. The perpetrator traveled with a pistol in his belt everywhere and the Police did not add water to the fire.
Also, a big concern is school safety. There have been many injuries among teenagers. Not to mention the ordinary "why are you looking at me" murders.
Such an event occurred in Durrës today shortly after midnight, resulting in the deaths of two young men. After an argument over espresso coffee, shooting began and two young men are no longer alive. But this event could have occurred in the middle of the day and the consequences would then be incalculable.
Of course, the police cannot be everywhere. But it seems that public safety has declined significantly. Today, there are endless numbers of young people who are armed. In the case of Durrës, the two young people involved in the conflict were carrying weapons in their waistbands. Many new weapons are also being introduced. And the most worrying fact is that murders are taking place in public places, where innocent people are at risk.
But of all the people, the one who doesn't add water to the fire is the police chief. He only comes out and speaks when he is given a decoration or meets strangers, because when there is an incident, it is not known where he is. To date, he has not made any reforms in the police, except for the dismissal of a few names that have hit his friends.
Now that Rama has made Albana Koçi the Minister of Interior, the signals are that crime will get out of hand. Albana doesn't say anything about this, but since Ilir isn't too worried either, the signals are that we will have murders every day. /Pamphlet/
