Prime Minister Edi Rama requested a few days ago the immediate suspension of the activities of the National Food Agency (AKU).
Regarding this, lawyer Kreshnik Spahiu, invited this evening to the show '5 Questions from Babaramo' on Report TV, said that this institution has had poor performance.
He stressed that Albania will find it difficult to reach European Union standards regarding food control.
"It is both a show and an emergency situation. AKU is the most unstable agency in the country, its leaders have been changed in months, not years. Albania, what it was proud of until yesterday, today has nothing. It is said that in Albania, people eat well and agricultural products are good, but today it is one of the countries with the poorest food quality and this comes because the food control institute is the weakest. It will be difficult for Albania to reach EU standards. Albania consumes 80% of food products outside European standards," he said.
Spahiu showed how other countries act when a product with problems is detected at customs.
"With the import of goods that arrive at customs, the inspection of the AKU begins from the customs section and on Albanian territory. But for example, the German AKU found during the inspection some chocolates with aluminum coming from Asia and blacklisted the company and the product by seizing it and informing all EU countries ," he said.
