From the Mifoli Bridge in Novosela, Vlora, the head of Civil Emergencies, Haki Çako, provided an update on the situation created by the rainfall and the overflowing of rivers.
Çako stressed that the situation still remains in emergency and full readiness. Referring to the Vjosa River, Çako said that there has been a decrease in the water level for several hours, while the flows remain at manageable levels.
"We are on day 4. We are still in a national emergency situation. The situation is under control, all institutions, structures are engaged according to prefectures and municipalities. We are currently at the Mifoli Bridge, where we emphasize that the Vjosa level has begun to fall for almost 12 hours. The increased risk has been removed, and we expect it to completely enter its bed as the levels in Përmet and Memaliaj have also dropped significantly since yesterday, where the intensity of the flows was at its maximum. We currently have no problems with residents, but there is water. After the management phase of the emergency, we will begin rehabilitation. We have started in Saranda, Lezhë and other places where there was a need", he said.
He also focused on the situation created throughout the country, such as in Shkodër, Lezha and Devoll, where there was damage to embankments and the presence of water on agricultural lands.
According to him, emergencies have been intervened where there has been a need to evacuate residents or livestock. He said that in Lezha, the lagoon embankment has been fully rehabilitated, while in Çuka in Saranda, preliminary intervention has been made but the water is expected to drain, for another intervention.
Çako also said that less intense rainfall is expected due to the drop in temperatures, and then to conduct a verification of the situation and the damage caused.
