Almost three weeks ago, the Tirana Court ordered "house arrest" measures for doctor Edmond Gashi and pharmacist Florian Marku. As for the doctor Alketa Pera, the deputy director of QSUT, Brikena Qirjazi, the coordinator Emiljano Lela, the administrator of the private clinic, Halil Gashi and the former specialist of QSUT, Drilona Kishta, the court set the measure of "obligation to appear".
According to the investigation so far, the suspects had set up an abusive scheme to delay the treatment of cancer patients at the Oncology Hospital, with the aim of sending them to a private clinic.
The same investigation revealed the non-operation of the cobalt-therapy device at the Oncology Department, installed since 2021, as well as leaving it in an unsuitable environment, becoming a dangerous source of radioactivity for medical staff and patients. Also, the investigation documented the smuggling of hospital cancer drugs and their trading in two private pharmacies.
The file against the Oncology doctors has been transferred to the Special Prosecutor's Office after the Prosecutor's Office of Tirana declared incompetence. On June 26, the Prosecutor's Office of Tirana discovered the scheme of fraud and extortion of tumor patients in the Oncology hospital.
Doctor Edmond Gashi is suspected that in collaboration with his colleagues, they referred patients diagnosed with cancer to a private clinic, which turns out to be in the name of his father. For each patient referred for treatment at the private hospital, the Oncology doctors benefited from significant sums of money.

An investigation by the Prosecutor's Office of Tirana revealed the scheme involving doctors of the oncology service and the staff of this service who transferred patients from the oncology service to private clinics.
Even the only cobalt apparatus, which serves for radiotherapy for patients with tumors, was deliberately kept broken so that this service would not be provided here but in private clinics.
Even the private clinic "Megis", of the doctor Edmond Gashi who served in Oncology, has been suspended until a second moment.
According to the information, it was a family member of a prosecutor who denounced and started this investigation.
The phones of the doctors and coordinators of this service have been monitored for a long time, resulting in genuine conversations and bargains, such as the sale of cytostatic drugs, which are expensive, and the fees charged for surgical interventions, which ranged from 4 to 5 thousand euros.
These bargains were made by calculating and luxury vacation destinations based on their text conversations.
