The candidate of the Berisha-Meta coalition, Fredi Beleri, will not be sworn in today as the mayor of Himara in the constitution of the municipal council.
Yesterday, the Special Court against Crime and Corruption rejected the request for a temporary permit with the legal argument that it is granted only in case of death, marriage or exam.
Fredi Beleri is in prison for the charge of buying and selling votes.
In order for him to exercise the office for which he was voted on May 14, the candidate of the coalition "We win together" must take an oath, otherwise he is not certified as the mayor of Himara.
Fredi Beleri has the next opportunity to sit in the chair of the leader of Himara on July 15. After the appeal, the Supreme Court will decide on the security measure, whether to keep the prison sentence in effect or to change it to house arrest.
Until this decision, which is related to the oath of the winning candidate of the "Together We Win" coalition, Jorgo Goro, will continue to exercise the office of the mayor of Himarë.
Reaction from official Athens
The Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a recent announcement has reacted regarding the rejection of the request of the elected mayor of Himara Municipality, Fredi Beleri, for the granting of a special permit to leave prison and participate in the oath at the first meeting of the Council Mayor of this city.
According to official Athens, the Albanian authorities are preventing Beler from taking the post.
"The request of the elected mayor of Himara, Fredi Beleris, to receive a special permit, in order to be a participant tomorrow in the first meeting of the new Municipal Council, as well as to take the oath and officially take office, was rejected. today. This refusal shows now, without any doubt, that the intention of the Albanian authorities is to deprive him, without a final sentence and without being charged, from the office of the Mayor, in which he was democratically elected by the citizens of the area As a candidate for membership in the European family, Albania must respect the rule of law and the right of innocence until the trial," said the announcement of the Greek Foreign Ministry.
The reaction of the opposition
Sali Berisha also reacted to the decision of GJKKO, which rejected Fredi Beleri's request to participate in the constitution of the municipal council of Himara.
By means of a reaction, the former prime minister states that GjKKO has implemented the party order, and not the norms of the rule of law. Berisha states that the Democratic Party considers the decision to be political and strongly condemns any step that makes the country's courts violate the principle of separation of powers.
"Fredi Beleri did not break Edi Rama's totalitarian dream of the pink political map, but he got in the way of his plans for strategic investments with the ministers' family and the ministers' relatives on the coast of the Municipality of Himara. For this, he targeted him from the start and ordered his arrest. For this, he is denied bail, while his former ministers are allowed. For this, Edi Rama plays the nationalist in Himare and the internationalist in Belgrade and Prishtina. It is not a matter of nations, because when there is interest, Edi Rama becomes a flag merchant. See how he is selling Kosovo's interests, working every day for its separation from its master, Vucic," wrote Berisha.
