Rama "ignites" the campaign engines/ From messages to members to a round of meetings with supporters
The Prime Minister, who is also the leader of the Socialist Party, Edi Rama, left messages and tasks for the members of the Socialist Party Presidency, during a meeting held this morning.
The focus of the Presidency meeting was the organization of internal elections in the party, while the Prime Minister asked the members of the Presidency to go out into the field, to meet with the people. Meanwhile, regarding the time when the National Assembly of the Socialist Party will convene, a date has not yet been set, even though one of the points for which the Prime Minister had called the Presidency meeting was precisely this.
The meeting of the Presidency of the Socialist Party lasted only 30 minutes, where the socialist leader chose to define tasks. During the discussions, it was requested to start meetings with structures and supporters on the ground, as part of a process of reorganization and coordination of the ongoing political activity.
And based on the messages and tasks that Rama has left to the members of the Presidency, it seems that the Prime Minister has unofficially launched the campaign, perhaps for the local elections expected to be held in the spring of 2027.
Ilir Proda's departure/ The competition for the new Director of the State Police formally opens
The Ministry of Interior has opened the competition for the new Director of the State Police, two days after the dismissal of Ilir Proda from this position. Proda's dismissal came after a wave of protests by the opposition, while in at least the last two rallies the Police did not undertake to guarantee the rallies, which led not only to the departure of Proda, but also of the Director of the Tirana Police, Elton Alushi.
Currently, the head of the State Police is Sokol Bizhga, a career officer who holds the functions of Deputy Director General, but is often accused by the opposition led by Sali Berisha.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Interior in an official announcement has announced the call for applications for the position of Director General of the State Police. Interested candidates have until March 11 to submit applications, while in the general criteria the applicant must hold one of the ranks of the middle management role.
From the practices so far, the competitions for the Director General of the State Police are formal, since in almost all cases the winner is almost predetermined. This also happened in the competition opened in October 2024, where in the end Ilir Proda was appointed as the head of the State Police.
Trial on the merits/The trial against Erion Veliaj begins on March 9
The Special Court has set March 9 as the date for the start of the trial on the merits of the criminal case against Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj. The hearing will take place at 09:30.
The panel is headed by Judge Engjëllushe Tahiri, with members Alma Kodraliu and Rudina Palloj.
The court took the decision to transfer the file to trial on February 9, including Erion Veliaj, his wife Ajola Xoxa and 28 other persons, individuals and legal entities, in the process. Veliaj has been in prison custody since February 10, 2025. The Special Prosecution filed the request for trial five months ago.
The prosecution charges Veliaj with 13 criminal offenses, including passive corruption, money laundering, failure to declare assets, abuse of office and introducing prohibited items into prison institutions. According to the indictment, he has committed passive corruption in 9 cases in relation to companies that have received construction permits and public funds from the Municipality of Tirana, while in exchange they have offered benefits in cash and real estate.

Although the Director of the Albanian Development Fund, Dritan Agolli, has been under investigation by SPAK since February 2022, for a 480 million lek tender awarded to his son's restaurant in Lalëz and has been denounced for many affairs with public funds, no criminal proceedings have yet been initiated against him.
The immunity has given Dritan Agolli a free hand to continue bargaining with tenders, most of which are fabricated for phantom projects with the "100 tourist villages" scheme, which are not carried out or are carried out partially and then the documents are filled out.
He also uses tricks, by announcing tenders for investments that should be carried out by the local government, which he cancels and passes on to private entities, with the justification of lack of capacity.
This is what director Dritan Agolli did with the public project: "Construction of infrastructure for integrated models in the area with development potential of Divjaka, for the knowledge farm and olive grove agrotourism", with a limited fund of about 6 million euros including VAT.
