The Special Prosecution Office has presented its final conclusions for the former acting mayor of Tropoja Municipality, Zyra Islamaj, and builder Rrok Gega.

The prosecutor in the case, Bledar Maksuti, requested a sentence of 3 years in prison for Islamaj, with the request that the sentence be converted to 4 years of probation. For the builder Rrok Gega, SPAK requested 1 year in prison, with the condition that it be converted to 2 years of probation.

According to the Special Prosecution Office, Zyra Islamaj is accused of the criminal offense of "passive corruption of persons exercising public functions", while Rrok Gega is accused of "active corruption".

The case is related to a tender procedure, where according to SPAK, the former head of the Tropoja Municipality had asked the builder Gega to build a bridge near her sister's apartment, even though this intervention was not foreseen in the tender contract.

The prosecution claims that Islamaj exerted influence over the builder and also engaged the municipality's road maintenance technician to carry out the works.

However, the bridge was not built, a fact that has sparked debate during the trial. Democratic Party MPs Gazment Bardhi, Asllan Dogjani Hoti, Xhelal Mziu and Bledjon Nallbati, who filed the complaint, were asked by the defense why they denounced an action that had not been carried out.

According to them, the verification of the criminal fact was the responsibility of the Special Prosecution Office and not of the complainants.
