The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, has temporarily left the Durrës detention facility to undergo a medical check-up at a private hospital in the capital.
According to sources, Veliaj underwent a specialized examination, which could not be performed by the medical service within the detention facility, where he has been held since February 2025, in implementation of the "prison arrest" security measure.
After completing the medical examination, the mayor was again escorted by the authorities to the Institution for the Execution of Criminal Decisions in Durrës, where he continues to remain in detention.
There is still no official information on the specific reasons for the examination or his health condition.
