The AKSHI scandal, currently under investigation by SPAK, is being considered one of the most serious issues of recent years, with developments that could have a direct impact on Albanian politics.
Journalist Klodiana Lala stated that this dossier has the potential to seriously shake the government, due to the scale of the abuses uncovered.
She also stated that this is the most important file that SPAK has ever investigated, as it concerns a state institution that managed a significant budget in terms of Albanian taxpayers' money.
"The AKSHI file is a file that can bring down the government. I say this with full responsibility. It is a capture of the state by a structured criminal group, not only because of the fact that tenders were predetermined in the AKSHI, but because of the way this criminal group cooperated, how money was laundered or how businessmen were kidnapped, or others were intimidated. So, in this aspect, it is probably the most important file that the Special Prosecution Office Against Corruption and Organized Crime has ever investigated. Why do I say this? Because it is about a state institution, an institution that certainly managed a significant budget in terms of Albanian taxpayers' money. There was sensitive data that the AKSHI had. Of the justice system and banks ," Lala said for "News 24".
According to Lala, the investigation includes a number of serious criminal elements, ranging from tender manipulation to money laundering and interference with sensitive data. She emphasized that Ergys Agasi and Ermal Beqiri are suspected of being part of a structured criminal group.
"I consider it a very important issue for the way it starts from hostage-taking, money laundering, bid-rigging to data theft or hacking. Now regarding your question, the Special Prosecution Office, after an investigation lasting no more than three or four months, has managed to seize in this first phase around 40 million euros of real estate, but also movable assets of the suspected persons. And we are talking about Ergys Agas and Ermal Beqiri, who are suspected of being part of the structured criminal group. The assets of Mirlinda Karçanaj, former general director of AKSHI, who is currently under house arrest, have also been seized," said Klodiana Lala.
SPAK's investigations continue, while this issue is expected to have further developments that could affect not only justice, but also the political scene.
