Analyst Andi Bushati spoke about the complicated political situation in Albania. He said that the country is at a critical moment, where the upcoming elections do not promise a fair democratic process.
Bushati emphasized that these elections have turned into mere votes without competition, where the game is already closed and the opposition is unable to exert real influence.
According to him, the opposition must be aware of the reality and fight for the protection of its positions, without creating illusions about a possible victory in the current conditions. He adds that the goal of the opposition should be focused on preventing the extension of the prime minister's absolute power and stopping the goals of achieving a qualified majority, which would allow Rama to further interfere with the Constitution and unlimited extension of power.
"The situation is very bad. I don't think recent events have had any major impact. Even before them, I belong to those who defend the opinion that the upcoming elections are not called elections; it's just votes and the game is closed. So, eventually, we are back to elections without competition, elections without competition, and where unfortunately the opposition does not have a big role to play.
In this situation, obviously the opposition has to fight to keep the positions. It must fight to have a battle without lying to the people that victory in the election is possible, but it is possible not to allow Rama to have absolute power.
So, Rama's announced goal of having 2/3 or qualified majorities that can interfere with the Constitution or give this regime more power by law, must be a real battle of the opposition. But unfortunately, and I'm linking it to the presentation you made at the beginning, the opposition was in Strasbourg, and this action or action left a very bad taste for me for one simple reason.
I belong to those people who believe that the opposition should be obedient and should not entertain the illusion that this regime can be broken by the internationals. Albania today is an autocracy with international support, with support from the European Union and the United States of America.
It is not a matter of us criticizing the West. Each country chooses the policies that suit it best, right or wrong. The only thing we have in hand is to raise the question of how we should behave in the face of this reality or this fatality.
I don't believe in polls, because they give an indication of a society where the patronage doesn't come and threaten you with the property you have to mortgage, with the relative you have at work, or with the child you are going to put to work. So the problem here is that people are not free to express their opinions. In this situation, talking about indications given by polls, for me, is an absurdity", said Bushati for "Syri Tv".
