Tourism enterprises in Albania are aiming to find qualified professionals to respond to the level of services required by tourists.
Alexa Bordho, a riding instructor from the United States of America, has been working in Gjirokastër for several months with an Albanian company, sharing her experience.
Aleksa especially appreciates the education programs with riding with Albanian horses in nature, which are increasingly attracting all ages.
At the foot of Mount Lunxheria in Gjirokastër, on a horse riding farm, Alexa Bordho is conducting the next horse lesson for two Albanian children.
Alexa has been living in Albania for two years and after an experience in Durrës, she has been working on this farm in Gjirokastër as a riding instructor for 5 months.
"My experience in Albania is really unique, I really have an appreciation for all the countries of the Balkans, my husband is Albanian and it's a pleasure to be here", says Alexa.
"I love Gjirokastra. I found here a peaceful, very loving city and I love the village where I live nearby," says Aleksa.
With 15 years of experience with horses, Aleksa tells how she started her passion.
"When I was little, I moved with my mother from Chicago to Pecatonica, a small village in Illinois. At that time I started to like horse riding. For many years I studied horses and gained experience from many famous riders and trainers in America until I completed my professional studies. While now I am doing the opposite in Albania, learning from others. Living in Albania is not easy as going to a new country is always challenging", says Alexa.
In addition to the family that is far away and misses her or the first challenges of adapting to the Albanian reality, Alexa also talks about the difficulties in working with young horses of the Albanian breed.
"Some of the horses that I have trained here have been particularly difficult, I can say that they have required a lot of patience and although they are horses with personality difficulties I seem to have succeeded now and all this experience with young horses has made me a most skilled person in the field of horse training".
These programs are very important to create new riders, says Kristina Fidhi who, together with Ilir Hitaj, have set up this enterprise of organizing horse trips for tourists as well as locals.
“Aleksia po ia del shumë mirë. Kemi klientë, kalorës dhe nxënësit e saj të parë të cilët e kanë me shumë zemër kontaktin me kuaj. Ajo që u mëson Alexa nxënësve të saj është të njohin kalin njëherë dhe pastaj ta kalërojnë atë. Shkolla e kalërimit ka pasur qëllim të krijojë një komunitet kalorësish i cili na mungon ne në Shqipëri. Ne shpresojmë që në 5 vitet e ardhshme të kemi krijuar të paktën 200 kalorës."
Kristina thotë më tej se u është dashur shumë kohë për të krijuar një staf të plotësuar për udhëtimet me kuaj.
“Nuk është vetëm që duhet të gjesh njerëz për këtë sipërmarrje por të duhet t`i kualifikosh ata, të duhet të punosh me vite për të krijuar një guidë apo një instruktor. Dhe kjo nuk është shumë e lehtë. Fatmirësiht ne tani kemi një staf të plotësuar por na është dashur shumë kohë për ta motivuar dhe për ta mbajtur atë aktiv përgjatë këtyre viteve”.
Rraca e kuajve është autentike shqiptare dhe itineraret që ndiqen nga kalorësit që vijnë nga anekënd botës por edhe nga brenda vendit në zonat në jug të Shqipërisë janë mjaft mbresëlënëse.
Itineraret zgjasin mbi një javë, thotë Kristina. Njëri prej tyre përfshin zonën e Zagorisë deri në rrjedhën e Vjosës shpallur së fundi Park Kombëtar, një itinerar tjetër përshkon rrugën e vjetër mesjetare të karvaneve të tregëtarëve dhe një i tretë udhëtimin që mbreti Skerdilajd bëri me ushtrinë e tij dy mijë vite më parë duke dalë nga malet e thepisura në det.
"We are mainly focused on long itineraries that last from a week and an expedition that is 12 days that crosses the entire territory above Zagori and goes out along the Vjosa. This is also in the name of supporting the community of Vjosa, which is now a National Park. We wanted to believe from the beginning that from tourism and ecotourism more can be gained than from other harmful interventions in nature. So it is a tour for Vjosa plus three others related to our history."
Natural tourism and adventure tourism are enriching Albania's tourist offer, and although with many challenges, enterprises are proving that they are creating increasingly attractive services for both local and foreign tourists. /VOA
