The Tirana Criminal Court decided this Wednesday the security measure "arrest in prison" for the three people arrested after the serious incident of the murder of judge Astrit Kalaja, in the courtroom.
Security measures were set for Elvis Shkambi, the perpetrator of the murder, Gjon Shkambi, his uncle, and Banush Koxhaj, an employee of the Court of Appeals.
After the hearing, the lawyer of Elvis Shkëmbi, the perpetrator of the murder, spoke to the media, saying that the murder occurred after Elvis' uncle walked through the courthouse door. Kujtim Ibra explained that the perpetrator apologized to the judge's family and the two injured people, and said that he had the weapon because he worked in security institutions. Shkëmbi's lawyer said that he learned that the guard is diabetic and that he was sick on the day of the incident.
"He has suffered a lot in terms of civil matters, he has gone into a lot of debt due to a long ordeal. The shock was due to the decision given, since the matter would be returned to the beginning once again. The weapon was not with a permit, the pro-rock claims that he worked in several institutions. He stated this much in the hearing. We must apologize to the Kalaja family, he apologized for the two injured and for the judge. A judge was hit, it is unjustifiable, the judge and the prosecutor are in the enforcement of the law, they cannot be killed and I believe that this alarm bell will also be for the justice system, which should not reach excessive delays", said the lawyer.
