Exactly 43 years ago, at dawn on December 18, 1981, Albanian Prime Minister Mehmet Shehu, who had held that position since 1953, was found dead in his bedroom (according to the official version, from a pistol bullet), in the villa where he lived with his family, at the entrance to the "Block" of the senior leadership of the Albanian People's Liberation Army, just a few meters from the building of the Central Committee of the Albanian People's Liberation Army and also the villa of Enver Hoxha. Although more than four decades have passed since that day, considered one of the most serious and sensational events of that regime, even today, there is no clear and accurate version of what happened to the former Albanian Prime Minister, Mehmet Shehu, at midnight at dawn on December 18, 1981! But, even though after the '90s, dozens of testimonies and archival documents have been made public regarding that event, "the murder or suicide of Mehmet Shehu", it continues to be the subject of numerous debates and discussions, even shrouding the truth about it even more in mystery!
Based on this fact, in the context of the publication of dozens of testimonies and files with archival documents from the secret fund of the former State Security and the Ministry of Internal Affairs, or the Central Committee of the Albanian People's Liberation Army, which we have published in these decades after the collapse of the communist regime of Enver Hoxha and his successor, Ramiz Alia, Memorie.al has secured the voluminous file "of the enemy Mehmet Shehu", which was extracted from the secret fund of the former State Security at the Ministry of Internal Affairs (now part of the fund of the Authority for Information of Documents of the former State Security), where with some small exceptions, most of them have not seen the light of day and are published for the first time in full.
In the file in question, there are the relevant facsimiles, the expert report of the operational-investigative group, which was set up immediately on the morning of December 18, 1981, headed by Koço Josif, (head of the Investigation Department of the Directorate of Internal Affairs of Tirana), forensic doctors Dr. Fatos Hartito and Associate Professor Bashkim Çuberi, the Prime Minister's doctors, Milto Kostaqi and Llesh Rroku, as well as the criminal expert of the Central Criminalistic Laboratory of the Ministry of Interior, Estref Myftari, assisted by senior officials of that ministry, Xhule Çiraku, Elham Gjika and Lahedin Bardhi.
Also in the voluminous file in question that we are making public, there are also testimonies of the family members of former Prime Minister Mehmet Shehu, his service personnel and his escort group, as well as all other persons who were summoned and testified about that event. For more about this, etc., please refer to the documents in question, which we are publishing together with the relevant facsimiles and photos.
But, even though we are dealing only with archival documents, it should be emphasized that; knowing now how that system functioned before the '90s, we can in no way claim the absolute truthfulness of what is written there, since not only from the people who gave their testimonies, but also from the investigators of this case, it has been made known that; they were obtained under pressure, coercion, intimidation and physical and psychological violence, even going further, where some of the investigators wrote them themselves and the witnesses or defendants only signed them.

Regarding the matter, I can say the following: I worked for 12 years as a cook in the house of the enemy Mehmet Shehu. Both Mehmet Shehu and his wife, Fiqret Shehu, along with their children, behaved very badly with us, the service personnel, cursing us, insulting us, shouting, etc., treating us like kings. At Mehmet Shehu's house, usually came; Feçor Shehu, Llambi Ziçishti, Nesti Nase, Kadri Hazbiu, and in recent years, also Nazar Berberi, Mendu Backa, Veli Llakaj, etc.
Edhe Mihallaq Ziçishti ka ardhur, sidomos në Durrës, ku pinte kafe dhe bënte muhabet me Mehmet Shehun. Më kujtohet se kur Mihallaq Ziçishti ka ardhur nga Spanja, Mehmet Shehu e mbajti për drekë atë, në shtëpinë e tij në Tiranë, dhe më kujtohet mirë, për Mihallaq Ziçishtin, Mehmet Shehu e ka mbajtur për drekë, edhe kur është zhvilluar një plenum i Komitetit Qendror të PPSH-së, këto vitet e fundit.
Për personat që Mehmet dhe Fiqret Shehu ftonin për dreka e për darka, si ministria e zv/ministra, miq të ndryshëm, e deri te profesori i Skënder Shehut, që erdhi nga Suedia bashkë me vajzat e tij, Fiqretja bisedonte me Qamil Peshqeshin dhe Fejzo Bijon, dhe kështu që harxhet që bënin me këtë rast, si për miqtë dhe për veten e tyre, i paguante Drejtoria e Pritjes. Me këtë rast, hanin edhe personeli i shërbimit, shoferët, etj.
Në mjaft raste kur vinte fundi i muajit dhe do paguheshin lekët me harxhet ushqimore të bëra gjatë muajit, Fiqretja shikonte faturat dhe bërtiste se ishin harxhuar shumë para, nuk i paguante të gjitha lekët apo jo, se di! Ata hanin si derrat dhe çdo gjë të mirë, duke bërë edhe naze e kthyer dhjetëra herë, ushqimet që nuk i pëlqenin, në dyqan. Fiqret Shehu, gjithmonë kur s’i pëlqente ndonjë gjë, na thoshte; do t’ju fus në burg, etj.
Fiqretja, ishte aq shpërthyese, sa për mua ndeshej në Ministrinë e Tregtisë, që mos të më jepej kategoria, sipas rregullave përkatëse. Më kujtohet një rast këto vitet e fundit, që më ka bërë përshtypje. Porsa Mehmet Shehu ishte kthyer nga gjuetia dhe kishte ndarë derrat që kishte vrarë, ku i çoi Kadri Hazbiut, Feçor Shehut, Veli Llakajt, dhe njërit që i kishte bërë, siç dëgjova aty, një pushkë gjuetie Mehmet Shehut.
Mehemti erdhi dhe më pyeti mua vetë; “u shpërndanë”, unë i thashë; “po, por ka mbetur pa i çuar komandantit”! Ai më pa në sy dhe më tha: “Kujt komandanti”?! Unë i habitur ju përgjigja: “Komandantit, udhëheqësit të partisë”, siç e thërrisnim të gjithë aty. Mehmet Shehu, duke nënqeshur më tha: “Aha-aha” dhe u largua.
Mish derri të egër, Mehmet Shehu i çonte shpesh, edhe Tanush Shytit, Duro Shehut, etj. Tek ne, në personelin e kuzhinës, vinte shpesh Jonuz Luto dhe shoferi i Fiqretit, në fillim Thanas Kosta, e më vonë Bedriu, por vinte dhe Ali Çeno e Astrit Hitaj. Nganjëherë me ta pasdite, ose darkave, shkonin dhe luanin në Shtëpinë e Partisë nr. 1, kur s’kishte njeri nga udhëheqja.
Javën e fundit, para se të vriste veten Mehmet Shehu, unë kam qenë me lejen e zakonshme dhe aty ka shërbyer xhaxhai im, Qemal Gjeli, që edhe ai është kuzhinier në Drejtorinë e Pritjes. Për rastet që vinin miq të ndryshëm në shtëpinë e Mehmet Shehut, unë nuk i shikoja dhe nuk e merrja vesh se kush hynte, sepse rrija në kuzhinë, por dëgjoja më vonë se erdhi filani, etj.
Kur vinin miq e pinin kafe, Mehmeti ose Fiqret Shehu, i binin ziles, ose kohët e fundit, na lajmëronin në interfoni, vetëm në të rrallë Fiqretja zbriste poshtë në kuzhinë, për të na lajmëruar që të bënim kafe, raki, etj., pa na lajmëruar se kush kishte ardhur.
