For five days now, a large-scale fire has engulfed a difficult mountainous area between Malçan and Grazhdan, in the territory of the Municipality of Finiqi. The difficult situation has required intervention from central and local authorities.
After the intervention of the Mayor of Finiq, Romeo Çakouli, a Ministry of Defense helicopter began operating in the area for about an hour and a half, in an attempt to contain the spread of flames in this difficult terrain that is inaccessible from the ground.
The operation is also being supported by ground forces from the municipalities of Konispol, Delvinë and Himara, as well as 30 soldiers sent by the Ministry of Defense. A "Kanadair" firefighting aircraft from Greece is also expected to arrive soon, which will assist in aerial extinguishing the flames.
Meanwhile, a fire has broken out in the village of Mbrakull, in the Mbrakull Administrative Unit in Poliçan. The fire, which has burned a large area of pine trees, is still burning in some areas, favored by wind and high temperatures.
