
Tirana Police have reacted after two days regarding the fire that destroyed dozens of businesses in the "May 5" market in Tirana on January 8.
According to the police, the cause of the fire in the market warehouses, otherwise known as the former "Uzina Dinamo" market, is suspected to have been an electrical spark. Meanwhile, the flames have caused considerable damage to goods and material damage.
"On 08.01.2026, on "Ferit Xhajko" street, it is suspected that, as a result of an electrical spark, a fire broke out in the market silos otherwise known as the former "Uzina Dinamo" market, resulting in considerable damage to goods and material damage. Under the direction of the Prosecutor's Office, procedural actions were carried out and it is suspected that the cause of the fire was accidental. The materials were referred to the Prosecutor's Office for further investigations ," the police announced today.
Meanwhile, even though 40 hours have passed since the fire started at the "5 Maji" market, there are still active fires. Fires and smoke can still be seen in the ruins of the market.
The large-scale fire that engulfed the market near the former "Dinamo" factory, on "5 Maji" street, on the evening of January 8 in Tirana, destroyed everything.

The fire started in a warehouse and spread rapidly, affecting over 100 businesses, whose merchandise was reduced to ashes, despite firefighters fighting for more than 6 hours to neutralize the flames.
The two burned silos include over 100 warehouses, with a total area of 11,000 square meters, where only the remains of the destroyed structures now remain.
