For four terms, socialist militants have been working hard, spending and sacrificing in every electoral campaign to keep the Socialist Party in power. They are the ones who fill the squares, sweat door to door, distribute leaflets and flags, spend family savings and face insults and accusations in the field. However, after every victory, the political rewards and the most important positions end up in the hands of Lulzim Basha's friends and comrades.
The latest example is the appointment of Artur Papajani as head of the Mandatory Health Insurance Fund. Papajani is neither a socialist nor a militant of the Socialist Party, but a former senior Tax official during the time of the DP government, and moreover one of Lulzim Basha's close associates. And it is not the only case. Other names have had the same fate, who despite having made a career in the DP structures, today appear comfortable in important positions in the Rama administration.
This double game has created great disappointment among the socialist base. Because those who sweat and carry the campaigns on their backs do not even get a simple job in the administration. While, on the other hand, figures linked to the opposition, to Basha's PD, rotate and end up at the head of institutions that manage billions of euros in funds.
Edi Rama justifies this behavior with the idea of “technicians” and “non-party professionals.” But SP militants know well that this is about political clientelism, about underground bargaining with people who are formally oppositionists, but in fact have close relations with the prime minister.
The irony is that in public the socialists are called to sacrifice and "fight against the enemy," while behind the scenes, power is shared with the comrades of yesterday's enemy. This scheme not only destroys the militants' trust in their party, but also turns the administration into the common property of a small club of people who share positions by bargaining, not by votes.
If the SP continues to treat its base like this, it is no wonder that one day the militants will no longer tire of campaigns. Because they have seen it with their own eyes: the fatigue is theirs, the victory is Rama's, but the posts are always for Lulzim Basha's friends./ Pamphlet
