In the court session, Ilir Beqja accused and attacked Judge Flojera Davidhi, telling her: - You are acting with political intentions, orders and influences. But even if you sentence me to death or life imprisonment, you cannot undo my contributions to the country, nor tarnish my name, nor criminalize Edi Rama's government... But what are Ilir's contributions?!
After his arrest on July 4, 2024, for the theft of EU funds, money laundering and abuse of office, former Minister Ilir Beqja was indicted and put on trial for the surgical equipment sterilization affair, but this time as part of a structured criminal group.
His prosecutor friends, Edvin Kondili and Ened Nakuçi, initially did not include Ilir Beqje in the investigation; however, after pressure from the US media, they only charged him with abuse of office.
But on December 24, 2024, the Special Court tasked SPAK prosecutors with indicting Minister Ilir Beqja for involvement in a structured criminal group in the theft of public funds.
Since January 23, 2025, Ilir, in addition to being a defendant for the theft of EU funds, has been taken into custody and put on trial for theft in a structured criminal group, in the surgical equipment concession affair.

But what is Ilir Beqja's 34-year "contribution" to Albania, which he says cannot be tarnished by accusations and arrests as a thief of state funds?
In early September 1990, after completing his higher education at the age of 22, Ilir Beqja was appointed head of department at the State Bank, by decision of the Governor and member of the Political Bureau of the Albanian People's Party, Qirjako Mihali, because he was a party friend of his father Hamid Beqja.
Ilir remained in this position until February 1993, retained in the job by the other governor, Niko Gjyzari, and Ilir Hoti of the Democratic Party of Albania (DP) government.
In March 1993, again in power of the DP, Ilir Beqja was appointed Director of Investment Programs at the Ministry of Finance, where he remained until March 1994, and was even an "expert" in the privatization of state-owned enterprises, where Linda e Bablokut was the director.
In April 1994, by order of Sali Berisha, Ilir Beqja was appointed head of the Social Security Institute, where he remained until July 2006, a period when 80,000 people were entered in the pension registers as pensioners with false documents and 50,000 people as supposedly disabled.
In September 2006, after an investigation began against him for pension fraud and bribery, Ilir Beqja created the private company "INTECH+ Sh.pk"; with which he received 11 million Euros in tenders during the DP government, while during the SP government, he received and continues to receive 30 million Euros in tenders.
In 2011, after Beqja joined Edi Rama and was not giving his share to the PD-LSI thieves, his mandate as an MP was revoked with evidence of receiving funds through the firm "INTECH+".
Between September 2011 and September 2013, he was an advisor to the Socialist Party parliamentary group, and then served as Minister of Health and an MP for 8 years, during which time he committed nearly 2 billion Euros in theft from tenders and concessions in the healthcare sector.
From October 2021 to November 2023, Ilir Beqja was Director of EU Funds in the Prime Minister's Office, while since July 2024 he has been in prison for theft in healthcare and EU funds./ Pamphlet
