Air strike in Gaza, former high official of Hamas is killed

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) and Shin Bet announce that Asma al-Mazini, head of the Shura Council of Hamas, was killed during Israeli operations in the Gaza Strip.

According to the statement, al-Mazini was the "minister" responsible for Hamas prisoners in Israeli prisons and directed terrorist attacks against Israel. 

He had also led negotiations for the exchange of captured Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit.

An Israeli airstrike hit the Gaza Strip overnight, killing at least 25 people, including women and children, and wounding dozens, according to Palestinian medical sources.

The American president, Joe Biden, will visit Israel and Jordan on Wednesday. Biden will meet with King Abdallah and Palestinian Authority President Abu Mazen in Jordan, while in Israel he will meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
