40 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli airstrikes in Gaza.
In Gaza City, north of the enclave, Israeli warplanes struck two houses, killing at least six people and wounding several others, health officials said.
As night fell, an Israeli airstrike on a house in the Al-Nuseirat refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip killed three Palestinians, including a local journalist, medics and Hamas media said.
Six other people were killed in other central Gaza areas in separate Israeli airstrikes, they added.
The Israeli army announced that two soldiers were killed in central Gaza on Sunday.
The armed wing of Islamic Jihad, a Hamas ally, said it fired rockets into Israel, signaling the group was still capable of launching rocket attacks after nearly seven months of Israeli air and ground offensives.
