During a press conference at the White House, President Donald Trump reacted sharply to a question from The New York Times regarding the possibility that strikes on civilian infrastructure in Iran violate the Geneva Convention.
Instead of directly addressing the legal concern, Trump attacked the media, targeting the American newspaper.
"If you think we're going to let them have nuclear weapons, you can tell your friends at the New York Times that's not going to happen," he declared.
The President added that he is not concerned about this issue, while emphasizing that he hopes that it will not be necessary to take such measures.
He described the situation as a "critical period," warning that everything will depend on Iran's next actions.
Trump repeated threats to hit infrastructure, declaring that if the deadline is not met, Iran will have "no bridges" and "no power plants."
“We can bomb them hard,” he added.
However, the US president also left open the possibility of a deal, saying he believes Iran is negotiating and can act in good faith.
