US President Donald Trump announced that the US and Iran had very good and constructive talks over the last two days, while ordering the Department of Defense to postpone any attacks on Iranian energy facilities for 5 days.
In his post on Truth Social, Trump states that "I am pleased to announce that the United States of America and Iran have had very good and constructive talks, over the last two days, regarding the full and final resolution of our hostilities in the Middle East."
He continued: “ Based on the spirit and tone of these detailed and constructive discussions, which will continue throughout the week, I have directed the War Department to postpone any military strikes against Iranian energy facilities and infrastructure for a period of five days, pending the success of the ongoing meetings and discussions. ”
Since last week, Trump has stated that he is not interested in reaching any kind of agreement with Iran, saying: "we can talk, but I don't want to make a ceasefire."
On Saturday evening, the US president gave Iran a 48-hour deadline to open the Strait of Hormuz, otherwise it would face attacks on its power plants.
Trump had stressed that the United States "will strike and destroy Iranian power plants, starting with the largest, if Tehran does not fully open the Straits within 48 hours."
In response to Trump's threat, the Iranian military had said it would target energy and desalination infrastructure belonging to the United States and regional regimes, according to the Fars news agency.
However, after Trump's new tweet, it appears that the deadline no longer applies.
