US administration in chaos/ Employees working from home return to offices

Millions of federal workers in the US were ordered to return to offices across the country in recent weeks, marking the end of Covid-era rules allowing more flexibility to work from home.

Many have returned to jobs that were not ready for them.

At a Department of Health and Human Services office, there was no Wi-Fi or full power in the early hours when people returned last week.

According to CNN, Department of Education employees at a Dallas office returned to internet cables, random wires sticking out of the walls, and motion sensor lights that didn't work properly, ending up in dark workspaces. One employee tripped over a pile of cables on her first day back, resulting in a large gash on her foot. She has filed a complaint for compensation.

And a Department of Defense employee who returned to an office job handling sensitive information ran into a conference room with people on different teams, forcing them to leave the room to make phone calls. The employee was eventually moved to an office — but one without Wi-Fi, so they had to use designated areas where they could pick up the waves.

The problems, confusion and errors that federal employees told CNN they encountered upon returning to the office have only added to the chaos within the workforce six weeks after a Trump administration determined to reduce the size and scope of the federal government.

Some federal workers who are being told to return to the office have no space to return to. At least two office buildings used by the Interior Department in the western United States were told last week that their leases had been canceled, according to a source familiar with the matter - while a third office that houses hundreds of people was told its lease will end in June. / CNN
