Marine Le Pen has strongly condemned Donald Trump's immediate suspension of aid to Ukraine, in an unexpected turn in her political rhetoric within the French spectrum.
"It is very cruel to Ukrainian soldiers who are patriotically defending their country," stressed the leader of the Rassemblement National, the far-right party in France.
According to the politician, the American president should give the authorities in Kiev "a reasonable amount of time" before withdrawing support.
"No one can force the United States to maintain support if they no longer want it, but Ukraine has not been given a reasonable time to return," Marine Le Pen said.
She stressed that this action is very cruel towards Ukrainian soldiers who are patriotically defending their country.
"The brutality of this decision is reprehensible," the French politician said.
Marine Le Pen has previously opposed sending French troops to Ukraine, saying the idea of joint European troops is "illusory" and that France should take its national interests into account. She also opposed sharing a "nuclear umbrella" with other European countries.
"Le Figaro" recalls that the politician was criticized for supporting Russia's policy after the annexation of Crimea in 2014. In 2017, she visited the Kremlin and met with Vladimir Putin, whom she described as a patriot.
