For the first time in nearly four months, a barrage of rockets was fired from the Gaza Strip, from Rafah, into central Israel, activating the Iron Dome defense system.
Hamas itself confirmed that it launched a rocket attack towards the Tel Aviv area in central Israel.
All 8 rockets were fired from Rafah, the Israeli military said, and most of them were intercepted by Iron Dome, with their debris falling in various places.

According to emergency services, two women suffered minor injuries as they made their way to shelters to find safety.

Rocket sirens were heard in other cities and towns, including Herzliya and Petah Tikva.
Israeli media have published images of rocket fragments in the garden of a building in Herzliya.
Another social media video shows a large crater apparently created by a rocket landing in an open area near the central city of Kfar Saba.
On its Telegram channel, Hamas' military wing, the Izzedine al-Qassam Brigades, said it launched a "massive rocket" attack on Tel Aviv.
At least 35,984 Palestinians have been killed and 80,643 wounded in the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip since October 7.
