Iranian intelligence organizations are collaborating to locate senior Israeli leaders, using cyber and technological tools to track their movements.
Israeli authorities have warned government ministers and their aides to disable location services on mobile phones due to an increase in cyber threats from Iran.
According to an Israeli official and a source familiar with the matter, ministers were sent a warning message asking them to ensure that no apps or services were using GPS to identify their location. The warning included apps such as Photos, Facebook and Google Maps.
The message stated that Iranian intelligence organizations are collaborating to locate senior Israeli leaders, using cyber and technological tools to track their movements.
In the past year, Israel has arrested several of its citizens accused of spying for Iran. Last month, an Israeli citizen was arrested for allegedly gathering information on former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, according to the Shin Bet domestic security agency.
In February, the Shin Bet and the National Cyber Security Directorate said they had thwarted hundreds of attempts by Iranian intelligence to hack the phones of Israeli officials. They said there had been a significant increase in attempts to break into private Google accounts, messaging apps and other digital systems since the escalation of the Iran-Israel conflict.
In parallel, the Israeli Ministry of Health announced that it has instructed all healthcare institutions to increase their level of preparedness for cyberattacks. Healthcare organizations have been ordered to move to the second highest level of cyber defense.
The measures come at a time when the clash between Iran and Israel is developing not only in the military field, but also on the cyber and intelligence fronts.
