Anti-Albanian Suella Braverman leaves Conservative Party; joins extremist Farage

Former British Home Secretary Suella Braverman, known for her hostile rhetoric against Albanian immigrants in the United Kingdom, has switched parties. The 45-year-old introduced herself as a member of Reform UK, Nigel Farage's far-right party. At a rally in London, Braverman said she had given up her membership of the Conservative party after 30 years, adding that her move to Reform UK felt like home.

In her speech alongside Nigel Farage, Braverman told the audience that the UK was ruined and that illegal immigration was out of control.

"We will either continue on a path of weakness and decline that includes surrendering our country or we can fix our country, reclaim power and rediscover our strength," Braverman said.

A member of the British Parliament since 2015, Suella Braverman was previously the Attorney General of Wales before embarking on a career in politics. Braverman took up the post of Home Secretary in the United Kingdom in September 2022 under Liz Truss' government but was forced to resign just a month after taking office after using her personal email to send a document to a Conservative colleague.

Rishi Sunak reappointed Suella Braverman to the position just 6 days after taking office, but Braverman did not survive long as she was sacked by the British Prime Minister a year later over an article accusing the Metropolitan Police of taking orders for arrests at pro-Palestinian protests in London. Suella Braverman is the third Conservative MP in office to join Nigel Farage's party, bringing the number of Reform UK MPs in the British parliament to 8.
